Clouds of suspicion, who is really in power in Iran!?
The CIA and the Israeli Mossad are trying to find out why Mojtaba Khamenei has not appeared publicly.
On March 22, the Russian "Public News Service" published an article.
American and Israeli intelligence agencies - the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and Mossad - are trying to find out the reason for the prolonged absence of Iran's new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.
According to sources from the intelligence community and U.S. officials, the publication reported that Washington and Tel Aviv have information indicating that Mojtaba Khamenei is still alive.
Specifically, there have been records showing Iranian officials attempted to arrange a meeting with him, but it did not take place due to security reasons.
This is simply incredible.
"We believe the Iranians would not go through so much trouble to select a dead person as supreme leader, but at the same time, we have no evidence to indicate that he is actually leading the country," said a U.S. official.
According to Axios, the issue of his absence was discussed multiple times during closed-door briefings on U.S. President Donald Trump. A U.S. official said that the national security team is still trying to figure out who actually controls the situation in Tehran.
An official representative from the Israeli authorities later admitted that the country's intelligence agencies have no evidence to indicate that Mojtaba Khamenei is making key decisions.
A U.S. official also pointed out that the situation looks extremely strange: on one hand, Iran is unlikely to appoint a deceased person as leader; on the other hand, there is a lack of evidence that he is actually governing the country.
According to the report, intelligence agencies had expected the new supreme leader to give a speech on Nowruz (the spring equinox on March 21). However, the video speech was given by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, while Khamenei's official channels only released a written statement calling for unity and a few photos.
Currently, U.S. intelligence agencies are trying to confirm whether these released images are up-to-date information.
