The Kathmandu Post reported on April 28 that the Nepalese government has demanded that China immediately halt construction of a security wall along the Bhote Koshi River near the bilateral border, stating that the project may alter the river's course and cause adverse impacts on Nepal. The construction site is located near Boundary Marker No. 53 along the China-Nepal border. The incident was initially reported by local residents to the District Administration Office (DAO), Sindhupalchowk, which then escalated the matter. Subsequently, Nepal’s Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Foreign Affairs became involved and formally raised the issue with China. According to the 1963 Boundary Protocol signed between China and Nepal, either side must notify the other in advance before undertaking any construction activities near the border, and neither party may attempt to alter the course of boundary rivers. If such actions result in losses, compensation must be provided. Nepalese officials stated that the Bhote Koshi River lies in a high-risk zone for disasters, particularly during the monsoon season, and any change in its channel could severely impact Nepal.
