[Russian MP: Ukrainian delegation suddenly "forgot" Russian, required translation during speeches but used English when facing media]
On May 16th, Russian State Duma MP Artem Dmitruk disclosed on his Telegram channel that during the Russia-Ukraine negotiations, the Ukrainian delegation suddenly "forgot" Russian and required translation assistance during their speeches, while using English when facing the media. He questioned this as "showboating" and commented that "this is obviously an act for 'more important people' for Ukrainians who speak Russian every day."
Previously, Russian media reported that both sides communicated in Russian during the negotiations, but Ukrainian representatives were still provided with translators. Dmitruk sarcastically remarked that Ukrainian officials "only speak Russian when filming absurd propaganda videos," questioning their sincerity in negotiations.
Russian President's aide and head of the Russian negotiation delegation, Mikhailo Mezentsev, revealed key points of the talks on the "60 Minutes" program on Channel One Russia on May 16th:
1. Overall satisfaction from Russia: Moscow, as the initiator of the negotiations, is generally satisfied with the results of the talks with Ukraine.
2. Large-scale prisoner exchange plan: A 1000:1000 scale prisoner exchange will be implemented soon.
3. Ukraine proposes a summit meeting: Kiev has requested a meeting between the heads of state of both countries, and Russia has been informed.
4. Ceasefire proposal to be submitted: Both sides have agreed to submit specific proposals regarding the ceasefire.
5. Open negotiations continue: Russia is ready to continue dialogue with Ukraine.
