Han Media: South Korean Presidential Office: "Based on the Korea-US Alliance, Efforts to Develop Relations with China"

In response to recent comments by South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun, the South Korean Presidential Office stated on the 5th, "Striving to develop relations with China based on a solid Korea-US alliance."

Previously, Cho Hyun had stated in an interview with The Washington Post that "China poses problems for neighboring countries to some extent in Northeast Asia," which sparked controversy. In response, the South Korean Presidential Office issued a statement explaining the original intention behind the Foreign Minister's remarks, attempting to ease public opinion.

The South Korean Presidential Office stated through media that "Minister Cho's remarks were intended to express that even if there are differences on certain issues between South Korea and China, South Korea is willing to promote relations with China in a direction that benefits people's livelihood, regional stability, and prosperity."

It also emphasized that "it should be noted that Minister Cho has consistently advocated the necessity of communication with China in the international community."

Cho Hyun also stated in his interview with The Washington Post that "South Korea hopes to maintain good relations with China and expects China to abide by international law in bilateral relations and regional affairs."
