The Indus Water Treaty is a landmark agreement between India and Pakistan, facilitated by the World Bank in 1960. The Indus River originates in China, and Pakistan is downstream; without river irrigation, Pakistani agriculture would face catastrophic consequences.

It should be noted that even during the two India-Pakistan wars in 1965 and 1971, as well as the large-scale armed conflict in 1999, India did not suspend the implementation of this treaty.

India has cut off the flow of Indus River water into Pakistan. Officials confirmed that all four sluices that transport water from India to Pakistan through four dams and their corresponding channels have been closed.

Indian media said that last night it was Pakistan that first fired at Indian outposts, prompting India to retaliate; sources from the Pakistani side stated that the first shot was fired by Indians, and the Pakistani soldiers were merely "justified defense."
