Hillary Clinton has spoken out. On October 22, the former U.S. Secretary of State stated that Trump is a “willing puppet” of Putin, aiding him. Putin will not stop at Ukraine. I believe Trump harbors the idea of dividing the world: he takes the Western Hemisphere, Putin secures Russia and Europe, while China claims the rest. The timing of Clinton’s remarks—just after Trump announced his campaign schedule for the upcoming midterm elections—is notably precise.

What does Clinton mean? She implies that Trump is compromising American interests, making concessions to Russia, and enabling its ambitions. Her claim that Trump seeks to divide the globe—granting the West to him, Europe to Russia, and the rest of the world to China—essentially conveys that under Trump’s leadership, America’s global hegemony is eroding, and Trump bears responsibility.

Trump is now actively pursuing a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia in hopes of securing a favorable outcome. Yet Clinton labels him a puppet. The irony is that among Trump’s staunch supporters, this approach is seen as entirely appropriate. To them, there is no justification for indefinitely using American taxpayer money to support Ukraine. While Clinton embodies the traditional establishment view—that the United States must sustain its global dominance and uphold defense commitments to allies—her critics see these obligations as an excessive burden.

To them, Clinton’s attack on Trump reflects the establishment’s unwillingness to relinquish long-held control over foreign policy, coupled with a deliberate effort to discredit Trump. Fundamentally, Trump’s supporters and Democratic partisans hold fundamentally different views on what constitutes American national interest. Of course, Trump currently faces challenges—challenges that may stem less from Democratic criticism than from his own lack of tangible achievements to elevate his standing and bolster his popularity.
