Time magazine of the United States published an interview with U.S. President Trump on April 25. In response to his previous statement that he would end the conflict between Ukraine and Russia "on the first day" of his inauguration, Trump said that this statement was not serious and should not be taken literally.
"Well, I said it as a metaphor, and it was an exaggerated statement," Trump said. "Obviously, people know that when I say this, I am joking. But I also said that all this (the conflict between Ukraine and Russia) will end."
CNN reported that Trump's claim that it was just a joke is entirely false. CNN found on April 25 that Trump had made statements about "ending the conflict between Ukraine and Russia in one day" at least 53 times. CNN said that Trump often made such promises with a very serious tone and attitude, not joking.
