On July 4th local time, US President Trump signed the "Big and Beautiful" tax and spending bill, making it officially effective.

However, before worrying about how this highly controversial bill will further exacerbate the US fiscal deficit and debt risk, Americans were stunned by a scene at the bill signing:

According to the live broadcast of C-SPAN, a US cable TV network, Trump signed the bill on the South Lawn of the White House, surrounded by Republican Congress members, military personnel, and their families. Afterwards, Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson took out a legislative mallet from his bag and handed it to Trump.

"Mr. President, this is the mallet used to pass the 'Big and Beautiful' bill," Johnson said while handing it over with both hands, "I want to give it to you, and I hope you can keep it."

According to a report by the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), the mallet was used to pass the bill on Thursday. Many Republican congressmen around the two people soon expressed a realization, cheering and clapping.

Upon hearing this, Trump's face lit up, and he took the mallet and asked the crowd, "Friends, are you ready?"

He then enthusiastically tapped the mallet on the table a few times.

After putting down the mallet, an elated Trump told the crowd, "Wish you all a great time."

This scene could be called the survival manual for the workplace: how to maximize the emotional value for your boss.

However, some critics see this as a collapse of faith in the American "separation of powers" system.

The US news website "RawStory" reported on July 4 that the video caused a stir online, with people exclaiming that under Trump's rule, the US legislative branch had bowed to the administrative branch, which was supposed to be equal.

On social media, there were numerous comments expressing disappointment, "The government structure of checks and balances, three powers, is nothing but this. History will not, and should not, record this moment kindly."

"The president doesn't care about the content of the bill, nor does he care about any laws. He now stands above the law and rules, and all department heads and federal officials obey him. This is a recent example."

Many people believe this scene proves that Trump has already reached out to Congress.

"Johnson handing the mallet to Trump is symbolic and politically significant. It is more than just a ceremonial gesture, highlighting a general understanding that even if Johnson's chairmanship is not directly controlled by Trump's agenda and demands, it is still influenced by them."

Some American netizens sarcastically said, "Congress is no longer an institution on par with other branches. What a symbolic significance!"

Someone picked up on the comment, "It's less a symbol and more a reality. Congress is completely useless now."

American former federal prosecutor and editor-in-chief of the liberal media Meidas Touch Network, Ron Philipkowski, also mocked, "On January 20th this year, Congress had already abandoned its role as an independent branch and also shirked all its oversight responsibilities. In this case, Johnson handing the mallet to the executive branch seems quite natural."

It is worth noting that Philipkowski used to be a Republican, but after the Capitol riot in 2021, he switched to the Democratic Party. The Mediaite news site he joined is dedicated to "sniping" at all of Trump's misconduct.

One person lamented, "At this point, Trump is only missing the gavel of the Supreme Court."
