Media Focus: China Completes the Lunar Lava Tube Test Area on Earth!
In terms of long-term planning for lunar exploration, China has taken a new step.
On July 17 (US time), the US publication "Space News" published an article.
China has once again taken a new step in its long-term planning for lunar exploration, completing a "simulated lunar underground space".
Researchers established a practical area in a volcanic lava cave near the forest area of Jingpo Lake in Mudanjiang City, Heilongjiang Province.
US scientists said that lava tube systems exist on the Moon and Mars, providing shielding from the harsh radiation environment of these planets.
The US media cited CCTV reporting: "The underground volcanic lava tubes of Jingpo Lake are the most similar environment on Earth to the lunar underground space. China is conducting robot lunar exploration experiments in this lava cave, and the experimental robots have already tested autonomous exploration and multifunctional operations in simulated lunar environments."
According to Chinese CCTV, compared with traditional lunar rovers and exploration robots, it has stronger environmental adaptability and flexibility. When exploring the underground space of the Moon in the future, it can have more accurate perception, decision-making, and operational capabilities.
China's Chang'e 7 mission is planned to be launched around 2026, heading to the Moon's south pole, carrying a seismometer to study the Moon's interior and detect moonquakes, which are caused by Earth's tidal forces, as well as temperature changes affecting the Moon's surface.
China plans to establish an International Lunar Research Station (ILRS) in the 2030s, and China is steadily moving forward.
In contrast, Trump cut NASA's budget, adding uncertainty to America's return to the Moon.
