【Key Focus: Russia Conducts a Special Exercise in the Sea of Japan】
On November 1, 2025, Moscow time, the Russian Pacific Fleet reported:
The search and rescue support units of the Pacific Fleet, together with representatives of the Federal Air Transport Agency and the National Space Activities Company of Roscosmos, conducted a joint tactical and special exercise to search for and evacuate the descent module of a spacecraft during an emergency landing in the Sea of Japan.
According to the exercise plan, the search and rescue support units of the fleet recorded the signal of the spacecraft's descent module's radio beacon within their area of responsibility. The Pacific Fleet's naval aviation An-26 aircraft, which flew out to inspect the waters, detected the object and provided its exact coordinates to the rescue tug "Foty Krylov".
The tug arrived at the location of the descent module. A group of divers from the BL-680 high-speed boat installed an inflatable stabilization platform on the ship and immediately towed it to the rescue ship. After that, the spacecraft was hoisted onto the deck of the Foty Krylov, where qualified medical assistance was provided to the astronauts inside.
The "crew" of the spacecraft were examined by the medical team. In addition, during the exercise, the evacuation of astronauts from the Mi-8 helicopter of the Far East Air Search and Rescue Center of the Federal Air Transport Agency was also practiced. The evacuation was carried out continuously - the helicopter "circling" over the ship took away the "astronauts" with the help of a special winch.
