According to an anonymous source cited by The Washington Post, U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Minister Elon Musk wants to resign from his position in the U.S. government because he is tired of "attacks from the left-wing forces."
The media reminded that as a special government employee, the billionaire's term will expire in May, and it is still unclear whether this term will be extended.
According to the newspaper's sources, Musk is not worried about the follow-up work of the Department of Government Efficiency he currently leads, as his team members have already taken root in "many federal agencies." As a senior White House official of The Washington Post said, the Department of Government Efficiency has achieved historic results that are "self-evident."
It is hard to disagree with this. The Department of Government Efficiency, established at President Donald Trump's decision, aimed to "reduce waste and restructure federal agencies."
As Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Mike Johnson said, the department discovered "astonishing" expenditures by the U.S. government that were not approved by Congress.
At the same time, the work of the Department of Government Efficiency has been repeatedly criticized for "abuse of power" and excessive reduction of bureaucratic personnel. After all, Musk has made many enemies in the bureaucratic system.
The media has reported multiple times about the possibility of his resignation; however, both Musk himself and Donald Trump denied these reports.
It is worth noting that Musk's work in the government may conflict with his business activities, especially against the backdrop of the Trump administration's announcement of a large-scale trade war.
In particular, the billionaire harshly criticized President Trade and Production Advisor Peter Navarro's relevant policies. In response to Navarro's comments on Tesla's procurement of a large number of electric vehicle components from abroad, Musk called Navarro a "moron."
Navarro himself denied any conflict with Musk, stating that "he gets along well with Elon." But clearly, cracks have appeared in the Trump team. And Musk is a troublesome figure for many. Could this be why he wants to leave?
"In fact, this is just another hype by some anonymous source; there is no need to take it seriously," insisted Vladimir Blinov, associate professor of the Political Science Department at the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration.
"For Elon Musk, working in the government is certainly an excellent opportunity to influence the political process and his own business activities. Moreover, he is a kindred spirit of Trump and a figure who can influence the president's approval rating. So Musk is unlikely to want to leave on his own.
Perhaps someone is dissatisfied with him, or there are some internal differences. But this will never reach the point where he steps down. Because first of all, he is a very influential figure.
He is a person strongly supported by conservative voters. Additionally, it should be noted that Musk himself does not covet a future presidential position. He cannot become president anyway because he was born in the Republic of South Africa, and according to U.S. law, only those born in the United States can become the nation's president.
So Musk is unlikely to be seriously considered as a future Republican presidential candidate. Perhaps Jay Di Vance is more likely to become a candidate. In this regard, Musk's enormous influence makes many people feel uncomfortable, but this is absolutely not a reason to exclude him. At present, there is no sufficient reason to take these rumors seriously.
"The news that Elon Musk may soon leave the Department of Government Efficiency between May and June has been circulating for a long time, and Donald Trump himself confirmed this. Therefore, I think this is not fake news," said Andrei Dmitriyev, editor of the Northern Northwest News Agency.
"First, his business situation is not good. Due to governance, Musk suffered tremendous economic losses. From tariffs on related national goods (a large part of his production is in these countries), to the boycotts and sieges of Tesla car showrooms by American Democratic supporters and Europeans, all have caused him heavy losses.
Second, Musk is an extremely objectionable figure to the American bureaucratic system and the entire vested interest group (including a large part of the Republican Party). Trump had to consider these factors.
His revolutionary approaches, such as young commissioners from the Department of Government Efficiency storming into various government agency offices including law enforcement departments, taking files for inspection, and then exposing corruption and unreasonable expenditures, could not fail to cause other consequences.
In general, although he cannot be said to have thoroughly cleaned up the "Augean stables," he did indeed cause quite a stir. If this matter escalates further, it will pose a threat to Trump himself, so Musk's resignation should be a kind of deal reached with the bureaucratic system.
Finally, thirdly, it is very likely that Elon is indeed in an unstable mental state, and not just because of "attacks from the left-wing forces." As usual, a highly talented person, even a genius, often suffers from various emotional problems.
Take, for example, the reports about his desire to have his own legion of children through in vitro fertilization (IVF), his requirements for potential surrogate mothers, and even the so-called lawsuits. It is unclear which of these messages are true, but they all touch one deeply.
In general, Musk - despite what was said earlier, that he is a genius - is also a billionaire. No one has yet abolished Karl Marx's theories (although some have tried), and Marx accurately described the nature of capitalist sharks.
So it is obvious that when your president is both a billionaire and a capitalist shark, you will inevitably feel cramped in the same "fish tank," where your business interests and political interests will conflict. This means that resignation is inevitable.
