Conservative Liberal Democratic Party legislators submitted an application demanding Shigeru Ishiba to resign!
A conservative faction of Liberal Democratic Party legislators, citing their defeat in the House of Councillors election, submitted a petition to Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba requesting his immediate resignation as party president.
The conservative faction, led by Liberal Democratic Party House of Councillors member Shigeharu Aoyama, visited the office of Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi on the afternoon of August 7 and handed over a petition requesting Ishiba's resignation.
The petition stated that the election results expressed the will of the people, which should be respected. The defeat in the previous House of Representatives election and the July House of Councillors election should be viewed positively, so Ishiba must quickly resign as party president.
Additionally, since Ishiba has not outlined a path for the Liberal Democratic Party to govern as a minority in the Diet, a presidential election should be held with participation from party members, and the party should aim to reorganize under the leadership of a new president.
Regarding Ishiba's desire to give a speech on the 80th anniversary of the post-war era, conservative lawmakers believe it is inappropriate for a prime minister who has lost two national elections to conduct "a test of war," and therefore requested him not to deliver the speech.
Shigeharu Aoyama told reporters: "If the public has already said no, but he refuses to resign, even children will not see him. Using 'to prevent political vacuum' as a reason for staying in office is upside down. Now is precisely a political vacuum, so he should resign."
