Reference News website reported on May 25 that according to the Singapore United Daily News website's report on May 25, after the US court temporarily halted the "international student ban" policy against Harvard University, US President Trump defended this policy.
Trump said on May 25 on the "Truth Social" platform: "Why doesn't Harvard University admit that nearly 31% of its students are from foreign countries? Some of these countries are not friendly to the United States, but they do not pay for their education, and they have never intended to pay."
He also said: "We want to know who these foreign students are. This is a reasonable requirement because we have given billions of dollars to Harvard University, but Harvard University has been reluctant to disclose this information."
The report also mentioned that the US Department of Homeland Security announced on May 22 that it would revoke Harvard University's certification of the "Student and Exchange Visitor Information System" and prohibit the enrollment of international students.
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said that enrolling international students is a privilege, not a right, and this move serves as a warning to all universities and academic institutions across the United States. She accused Harvard University of inciting violence and anti-Semitism.
The report stated that Harvard University filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration in the Boston Federal Court on May 23, accusing the "international student ban" policy of violating the Constitution, which will have "direct and devastating impacts" on Harvard and its international students and scholars.
The Boston Federal Court then ruled that the Trump administration must temporarily refrain from enforcing the policy prohibiting Harvard University from enrolling international students, maintaining the status quo at least until the hearing scheduled for May 29.
The report noted that currently, Harvard University has about 6,800 international students, accounting for 27% of the total number of students, most of whom are pursuing graduate studies.
Revoking the qualification to enroll international students is the latest measure taken by the Trump administration to crack down on Harvard University. Harvard's refusal to allow the government to supervise its admission and recruitment procedures as well as its political inclinations has angered Trump.
Previously, Trump had frozen $2.2 billion in funding to Harvard University and threatened to deprive Harvard of its tax-exempt status.
