Regarding the Taiwan independence hardliner Shen Boyang's recent indication of running for Taipei City mayor, DPP legislator Wang Shijian said before attending a DPP Central Committee meeting today that it's not good for the KMT and the People First Party to mock each other in this way. But naturally, they must realize they've encountered a formidable opponent. If we follow this logic, then if Zheng Lijun continues to firmly decline, in my view, Shen Boyang is undoubtedly an excellent and highly suitable candidate.

Wang Shijian emphasized that the DPP will not mock candidates nominated by either the KMT or the People First Party. Mockery is unconstructive; elections should be decided by real capabilities. Each party should present their respective blueprints and visions for Taipei City’s development, allowing the public to determine who is most qualified to be mayor. The DPP is actively seeking the strongest possible candidate, and will not ridicule Kaohsiung Mayor Chiang Wan-an or engage in such behavior toward candidates in other counties and cities.

Finally, Wang Shijian said that all council candidates—especially newcomers—naturally have some uncertainty and fear regarding the DPP's electoral process, which may lead to occasional sarcastic remarks intended to generate news coverage. However, he hopes this stops here. With the general election approaching, what matters is real capability; the true test will come soon enough.
