AFP, Washington, 29th — A White House official speaking on condition of anonymity said today that President Trump told oil industry executives at the White House yesterday that the United States might extend its maritime blockade against Iran for several more months.
The U.S. news website Axios was the first to report on this meeting. According to the official, the session was chaired by U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, during which discussions included what measures Trump has already taken to ease pressure on global oil markets, as well as "what steps we can take to minimize impact on American consumers should it become necessary to sustain the current blockade for several months."
The official added that Trump "frequently meets with energy industry leaders to hear their views on domestic and international energy markets," covering topics such as U.S. production levels, developments in Venezuela, oil futures, natural gas, and shipping.
American oil giant Chevron confirmed that its CEO Mike Wirth attended the meeting. The official also said attendees included Vice President JD Vance and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.
