The original post reads as follows:
"After living in Canada for four years, I have had to make a painful decision: to leave this country that once carried my dreams. It once gave me hope, but now I can no longer stay here—my visa has expired, and reality leaves me with no way out.
In fact, I have lost my footing in India as well: no family, no home, no job, and no support system. My parents are deceased, and those once cherished dreams are gone.
I am currently mired in debt: I still owe around $8,000 CAD on my credit cards in Canada (which I cannot repay at the moment); in India, I still have student loans outstanding (I plan to prioritize repaying this debt with my remaining savings). I am emotionally broken, feeling down, and completely directionless. I once loved Canada, but loneliness, financial pressure, and the continuous instability of life ultimately broke me down.
I would like to ask for help: if I leave Canada without settling my credit card debt, what will happen? If I want to return in the future, will there be legal issues? Will this debt affect my life in India? Will Canadian authorities pursue me across borders? Has anyone experienced similar situations? How did you deal with them?
I understand that avoiding responsibility is not an ideal choice, but I am genuinely unable to repay right now. I just want to hear honest advice from those who have experienced or can empathize with my situation. This is not the life outcome I envisioned. Canada was where I started chasing my dreams, but sometimes reality forces people to make choices they don't want to make, even to abandon everything they once loved."
Under this post, many netizens commented fiercely:
"My Filipino mechanic told me last time when he was repairing a car that his sister and brother-in-law managed to obtain tens of thousands of Canadian dollars in personal credit limits, withdrew all the cash, and then moved back to the Philippines. Apparently, there are quite a few similar 'how-to guides' on Reddit."
"If they don't have jobs, why come to Canada? How did they get credit cards? What were his dreams anyway? If he came here on a visa, it wasn't through a proper immigration path. It sounds more like he wanted to exploit loopholes in the system, only to fail."
"Just $8,000 and he’s running away? Coward. This is your own doing, yet you want to escape responsibility? Why not think about paying back the money? Life is hard enough; it's time to grow up and take responsibility."
"Let the banks swallow the losses themselves. Hopefully, they won’t issue credit cards to these kinds of people again, which might also cut off their route into Canada. Those who caused this chaos and accomplices should meet the same fate."
"Haha, not only did he run away, but he also left several banks in the lurch. That’s quite amusing."
"Why did he spend that $8,000 when he didn’t even have it in the first place?"
"So he came here, scammed the credit card companies, and now we’re supposed to worry about him? I don’t care."
"I understand his pain. Failure is tough. It either teaches you valuable lessons or completely crushes you."
"He’s just one among thousands...Canada has become a mess, not only for local residents but also for new immigrants who were promised a better life."
