Huawei Challenges NVIDIA: The New Ascend 910D AI Chip is Coming Soon
Reuters: Huawei Developing New AI Chip! Challenging NVIDIA!
According to Reuters, Huawei is preparing to test its latest and most powerful artificial intelligence processor in the hope of replacing some of NVIDIA's high-end products.
Huawei has contacted some Chinese technology companies to discuss the technical feasibility of this new chip, named Ascend 910D.
Huawei hopes that the performance of the next-generation Ascend AI processor will surpass NVIDIA's H100 chip.
The report adds that Huawei could receive the first batch of chips samples before the end of May. Huawei plans to begin mass shipping its advanced Ascend 910C AI chip to Chinese customers as early as next month.
For years, Huawei and other Chinese technology companies have been striving to catch up with NVIDIA, attempting to develop top-tier chips used for training artificial intelligence models to compete with American products.
To limit China's technological development, especially progress in the military field, the U.S. government has banned China from accessing NVIDIA's most advanced AI products, including the flagship B200 chip.
For example, NVIDIA's H100 chip was banned from sale in China even before it was officially released in 2022.
