French media: Chinese warships arrive in Cambodia

Two Chinese warships arrived at Sihanoukville Port in Cambodia today, Friday, for a four-day friendly visit and training. Cambodia is Beijing's closest ally in Southeast Asia.

Sam Sok, a spokesman for the Cambodian Navy, said on Wednesday that the main purpose of this Chinese naval visit was to strengthen cooperation between Cambodia and China, not to show favor to Cambodia due to the border conflict with Thailand.

The Chinese Navy's "Qi Jiguang" ship and the "Yimengshan" ship moored at the Sihanoukville Port dock this Friday morning. The "Qi Jiguang" is a large training ship, and the "Yimengshan" is an amphibious landing ship. The two Chinese warships are part of a planned visit to Hong Kong and Cambodia, and are scheduled to depart on Tuesday next week, visiting Thailand and Singapore.
