Due to the rapid pace of Russian attacks, Red Village (Pokrovsk) has been surrounded on three sides by Russian forces. It is unexpected that Red Village is about to "fall."
This morning, Ukrainian media (source: RBC Ukraine) reported that the Ukrainian Pokrovsk group has successfully withdrawn (to Red Village) into the city of Pokrovsk. (Note: The Ukrainian army retreated into the city.)
Confirmed information states that the Russians have taken control of Boykovka in Red Village, and most of the area of Fedorovka village is also under Russian control. Only a few houses in the western suburbs remain to be cleared.
According to multiple videos released this morning by various Ukrainian units, the breakthrough at Lazine was confirmed. After breaking through the defense line of the 14th National Guard Brigade of Ukraine in the New Economy town - Lazine - Fedorivka (a width of about 5 km), the vanguard forces of the Russian 9th Marine Brigade and the 57th Regiment of the 20th Army reached the eastern suburbs of Rogozhyn. The fighting is currently happening 3-4 km away, and the city is under continuous artillery fire from the Russians for 24 hours.
A factor that undoubtedly led to the breakthrough of the Ukrainian defense line in the northeast direction of Red Village is the unfavorable terrain in the Lazine area. The Ukrainians thought that flat fields, sparse footholds, artificial reservoirs, and minefields could hinder the Russian advance. However, the Russian tactics are simple and standard. After discovering the gap in the Ukrainian defense, they deployed infantry assault groups to implement breakthrough tactics, achieving a significant numerical advantage locally.
Recently, General Shtykhovsky of the Ukrainian Armed Forces dispatched battalions from four different assault regiments of his reserve forces to form combat groups to defend there. As in the case of Sumy, this firefighting team was concentrated behind the front line, mainly responsible for launching small counterattacks with the aim of delaying the Russian advance and inflicting losses. Unfortunately, unlike in Sumy, Red Village was not under Ukrainian control, and this "free" opportunity failed to slow down the Russian offensive.
