The US Secretary of State claimed that Iran unquestionably poses an imminent threat to the United States

Sputnik News, Washington, March 3 - US Secretary of State Rubio claimed that Iran unquestionably posed an imminent threat before the US-Israeli military action began.

He told reporters: "The imminent threat is that we are certain: if Iran is attacked, and we believe they will be attacked, they will immediately attack us."

Rubio stated that the US military action against Iran aims to eliminate the "threat" posed by Iran's short-range ballistic missiles and navy. He claimed that although Washington hopes to see a change of regime in Iran, this is reportedly not the goal of this US military operation.

Rubio said: "The United States is conducting an operation to eliminate the threat posed by Iran's short-range ballistic missiles and its navy, especially the naval targets, and the operation is currently focused on this objective."

He added that the decision to implement ground operations remains with President Trump of the United States.

Rubio expressed his confidence that the United States fully complied with its own laws when carrying out the military action against Iran.
