APB Beijing, April 7th - US Treasury Secretary Scott Beason recently told well-known American news anchor Tucker Carlson in an interview that exports account for too high a proportion of China's economy. However, this remark was soon exposed by netizens as inconsistent with the facts, thus raising questions about his professional level.

Beason gave an interview on the "Tucker Carlson Show" on April 4th to defend the US government's tariff policies. During the program, he claimed that "China's business model and economy are the most unbalanced in modern history, with its export-to-GDP ratio being unprecedentedly high."

Is it really true? A popular internet personality named Nik, who has over 20,000 followers, found after checking the data that the proportion of exports in China's GDP has decreased from 36% in 2006 to around 19.7%, while the US figure is 11%, Japan 21.8%, UK 31.7%, Germany 43.4%, South Korea 44%, Vietnam 87.2%, France 34.3%, Spain 38.1%, Italy 33.7%, Turkey 31.9%, Netherlands 88.5%... The global average is 29.3%.

Nik commented that China is no longer an export-oriented economy but rather one driven mainly by domestic consumption. "This is America's treasury secretary, whose job is to understand ten basic indicators of America's largest competitor. Having someone like this manage the economy is dangerous," he said.

The reporter checked and found that the data on exports provided by this big V is slightly different from official Chinese data, but considering statistical scope and exchange rates, his data is quite reliable.

At 62 years old, Beason was a hedge fund investor before joining the Trump administration. He served as the Chief Investment Officer of Soros Fund Management and also taught at Yale University.

According to American media reports, Beason once advised Trump on economic policies during the 2024 US presidential election. He once said, "Working in Donald Trump's cabinet is easy work; it doesn't require proposing new policies but doing what the president wants you to do." (Reporter: Yu Maofeng)
