[Text/Observer Network Zhou Shengming Editing/ Gao Shen] The electric drive technology enterprise "Mawei Power" based in Beijing recently announced that it has successfully built the world's first closed-slot continuous wave winding hybrid magnet motor large-scale production line, and has begun mass supply to domestic vehicle manufacturers.

According to Mawei Power, before the large-scale production, Mawei Power had also provided customized small-scale production for several global luxury car brands, helping these automakers improve their performance in new energy motors.

Mawei Power Introduction Mawei Power
Reviewing the development history of motor technologies used in vehicles, early motor technologies were mainly industrial round wire motors, which were inefficient and bulky. After 2005, permanent magnet synchronous motors (PSM) became mainstream but relied on rare earth materials, directly increasing motor costs; In 2013, BMW i3 began using hybrid magnet motors (HSM), balancing performance and cost. It is reported that the new motor produced by Mawei Power in this large-scale production is also a hybrid magnet motor.
In terms of winding methods, starting from 2010, the industry gradually adopted flat wire winding technology, evolving from I-pin to H-pin and X-pin winding methods. However, it is worth noting that during the development process, the industry gradually increased slot fill rates, but the welding processes became more complex with lower reliability.
Technical personnel introduced that the motor developed by Mawei Power adopts the W-pin winding technology, which can significantly reduce the number of weld points (only a very small amount at the series-parallel connection points), reducing energy loss and fault risks caused by welding.

According to Dr. Alex Michaelides, Chief Technology Officer of Mawei Power, the motor has three key technologies: electromagnetic design, continuous wave winding technology, and immersion oil cooling technology.
In terms of electromagnetic design, the motor uses a high magnetic reluctance embedded permanent magnet motor; self-developed closed-slot continuous wave winding technology (W-pin), optimizing the winding structure to reduce copper wire usage and enhance overall output efficiency; meanwhile, the immersion oil cooling technology improves cooling effectiveness, making temperature distribution more uniform and greatly increasing rated power.
According to Long Weiguo, Chairman of Mawei Power, the delivered B-sample machine has achieved a power density of 17.4 kW/kg without using special motor materials. It is reported that such power density leads the industry.
Mawei Power stated that in addition to being applied in new energy vehicles, the company's products can be extended to high-value-added fields such as low-altitude aircraft and robots in the future.
