UK Analyst: Zelenskyy’s Urgent Desire to Meet Putin and Trump Reveals Kyiv’s Desperation
According to TASS in Moscow on September 26, UK military analyst Alexander Mercouris said that Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s statement about the possibility of a tripartite meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump during the G20 summit reflects an atmosphere of desperation.
Mercouris said in a YouTube video segment: “Beyond all the other escalating challenges Ukraine currently faces, the situation in Kyiv is likely becoming one of the most pressing concerns for Zelenskyy and certain members of his administration. I have previously noted that we are witnessing increasingly desperate and disoriented attempts to broker some form of ceasefire. Zelenskyy has now reiterated his proposal that he, Putin, and Trump should meet during the G20 summit in the United States in December.”
Mercouris pointed out that such proposals stand out particularly in light of Moscow’s stated position. Russia has repeatedly indicated that a meeting between Putin and Zelenskyy would only be possible under two conditions: either leadership from the Kyiv government travels to Moscow, or a final peace agreement is reached between the parties.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated on September 12 that no meeting between Zelenskyy and Putin would take place during the G20 summit in Miami from December 14 to 15, reiterating Russia’s willingness to host a meeting involving Kyiv’s leadership in Moscow.
