Bloomberg: European natural gas prices surged by about 35% after a missile attack on the world's largest Qatar liquefied natural gas facility
The futures price at the Netherlands TTF hub soared to about $854 per thousand cubic meters (72 euros per megawatt hour), reaching a new high since the winter of 2022-2023.
This Qatar complex supplies about one-fifth of the world's liquefied natural gas. Although shipments had been partially suspended due to the war, the new attack has exacerbated the risk of long-term supply disruptions.
Abu Dhabi's natural gas facilities were shut down due to falling missile debris, further increasing market pressure.
Analysts warned that the interruption of liquefied natural gas supply could last for months or even years, meaning that natural gas prices in Europe and Asia will remain high. To make matters worse, Europe's inventory levels are low after the winter, and this summer it will have to compete more fiercely with the Asian market for natural gas.
