On April 2nd Eastern Time, the US government announced so-called "reciprocal" tariff measures that will affect almost all countries globally, imposing a 34% tariff on products imported from China. Our chamber has received information from member enterprises (including industries such as footwear, bags, furniture, toys, tableware, etc.) expressing strong dissatisfaction and hoping that relevant departments and chambers of commerce can pay attention to this issue and protect the legitimate rights and interests of enterprises. We attach great importance to this matter, are conveying the voices of enterprises to relevant departments, and further understanding the situation from our member enterprises.
Relevant departments such as the Ministry of Commerce have immediately expressed the position of the Chinese government's firm opposition to the US approach through press releases by spokespersons, and taken countermeasures to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises. The Tariff Commission of the State Council announced countermeasures against the US unilateral actions on April 4th, and relevant departments such as the General Administration of Customs also took corresponding measures.
We firmly oppose the US unilateral taxation approach, believing it not only seriously violates WTO rules but will also have a significant negative impact on global economic development and supply chain stability. We firmly support the government's decision and resolutely back the countermeasures taken by the government.
We call on the international industrial community, light industrial enterprises of various countries, and upstream and downstream partners to join hands, jointly oppose the US trade hegemony practices, unite and collaborate, and collectively address the series of problems brought about by the US unilateral measures.
