The Philippine House of Representatives says it will not give up on the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte!

Antonio Bucu, a spokesperson for the House prosecution panel, said yesterday that despite every step facing challenges, the House remains committed to proceeding with the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.

Currently, the House prosecution panel is preparing for the possibility of oral arguments in their motion for reconsideration to the Supreme Court.

If the High Court dismisses their appeal against the dismissal of the impeachment charges against Duterte, Bucu said they expect to file another impeachment complaint against her once the one-year ban expires in February.

"We support accountability, so we will not let go. It is important to hold an official who made a mistake, the second-highest official in the country, accountable for her misconduct, otherwise, this would set a bad precedent for accountability."

Bucu insisted that the House followed the Constitution and established precedents when impeaching Duterte, and denied that the impeachment was a conspiracy by Speaker Martin Romualdez.

"This is a legal, verified complaint filed by no fewer than 215 members of Congress, far exceeding the threshold of one-third of the members, which is approximately 102 people."

Bucu emphasized that the Supreme Court's ruling is not only overstepping its authority but has already become judicial legislation, "the Constitution has been amended, rewritten, and destroyed."

Despite other obstacles, such as Duterte's political influence in the Senate, the spokesperson for the House prosecutors stated that they have achieved significant progress by presenting evidence against the vice president.

"All these legal measures have never been considered in the Constitution, which clearly stipulates a simple impeachment procedure, but now it has become so complicated."
