The US Treasury Department issued new sanctions related to Iran, targeting two Hong Kong entities.

The US Trump administration issued new sanctions related to Iran on Friday, including sanctions against two Hong Kong entities and counter-terrorism related sanctions. According to the US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control, the sanctions targets include at least 20 entities, 5 individuals, and 3 ships.

The US Treasury Department stated in a statement that it would designate one individual and eight entities as sanction targets, and freeze the property of a ship due to their involvement in procuring and transporting sensitive mechanical equipment for Iran's defense industry. The ship named "Shun Kai Xing" is owned by Uni-Com Shipping Co Ltd headquartered in Hong Kong and was transporting these machines for Rayan Roshd Afzar, a company designated by the US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control at that time.

US Treasury Secretary Bessent stated: "The United States is determined to prevent any efforts by Iran to acquire sensitive dual-use technology, components, and mechanical equipment, which form the basis of Iran's ballistic missile, drone, and asymmetric weapons programs. We have made it clear: those who facilitate these programs will be held accountable." Bessent added, "The US Treasury Department will continue to undermine Iran's ability to produce and proliferate these lethal weapons, which threaten regional stability and global security."
