Han Media: Huawei beats Apple, regains the top position in China's smartphone market after five years!
On January 16, South Korean media "Today's Finance" published an article stating that Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei has surpassed Apple Company in the domestic smartphone market of China and reclaimed the top position.
Data released by market research company IDC shows that Huawei sold 46.7 million smartphones in China last year, with a market share of 16.4%, ranking first. This is the first time since 2020 that Huawei has become the annual sales champion in China's smartphone market after five years.
Due to U.S. sanctions, Huawei has encountered difficulties in purchasing semiconductors and other components, leading to a significant decline in market share. However, the U.S. sanctions have actually promoted Huawei's own technological development, contributing to its recovery. IDC analyzed: "The continuous improvement of Huawei's self-developed chip production capacity is the core driving force for 2025. The increase in chip production capacity is the key factor driving the growth in shipments."
Huawei is expanding its cooperation with Chinese semiconductor company SMIC and building its own ecosystem. Recently, Huawei improved the performance of its independently developed Kirin 9030 application processor (AP). This chip is used in Huawei's high-end flagship model Mate 80 Pro Max.
Although Apple's shipment volume increased by 4% year-on-year, reaching 46.2 million units (market share 16.2%), it fell to second place. In the fourth quarter of last year, due to the popularity of the iPhone 17 series, Apple once led with a market share of 21%, but in terms of annual shipments, it was overtaken by Huawei and ranked second. The third to fifth places were occupied by China's vivo (46.1 million units, 16.2%), Xiaomi (43.8 million units, 15.4%) and OPPO (43.3 million units, 15.2%).
At the same time, the total shipment volume of smartphones in China fell by 0.6% last year, reaching approximately 285 million units. Major manufacturers cited rising prices of storage semiconductors and production costs as reasons to raise product prices and delay new product launches, leading to a decrease in shipments.
