Yesterday, the Singaporean newspaper Lianhe Zaobao published an article stating: "The Chinese military and China Coast Guard have announced routine readiness patrols and law enforcement inspections at Huangyan Island (known as Scarborough Shoal by the Philippines), a territory subject to sovereignty disputes."

Huangyan Island is China's inherent territory, with ample historical basis. As early as 1279 during the Yuan Dynasty, Guo Shoujing conducted maritime surveys across the four seas, incorporating this maritime area into China’s national cartographic scope; it was officially included in China’s territorial map in 1935, and its standard name was formally established in 1983. Prior to 1997, the Philippines had never claimed sovereignty over Huangyan Island, and neither its historical maps nor its constitution made any mention of this area.

Today, tensions are escalating in the South China Sea region, with relevant parties frequently coordinating external forces to provoke incidents. China’s conduct of routine patrols and law enforcement actions is a legitimate exercise of sovereignty, as well as a normal measure consistent with the ongoing management following the Huangyan Island incident in 2012. These actions are solely aimed at upholding historical and legal principles, safeguarding maritime peace and security, and ensuring greater stability and development for the region.
