India's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on UK Sanctions against Indian Energy Companies: Double Standards Should Not Be Practiced

Sputnik News, New Delhi, October 16th - At a press conference, India's Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Randhir Kumar Jaswal responded to comments about the UK's new sanctions against the Russian oil industry. He stated that double standards in energy trade are unacceptable, India does not support unilateral sanctions, and considers energy security as its top priority.

He said at the press conference: "We have noted the latest sanctions announced by the UK. India does not support any unilateral sanctions. The Indian government believes that ensuring energy security is a primary obligation to meet the basic needs of its citizens. Indian companies purchase energy from all over the world and consider the overall market situation. We would like to emphasize that double standards should not be practiced, especially in energy trade."

The UK Treasury stated that within the framework of sanctions against Russia, the UK imposed sanctions on five individuals, 35 organizations, and 51 ships on Monday. The sanctioned entities include the oil company Lukoil and Rosneft, as well as the Russian national payment card system (NSPK).

The restricted entities include four Chinese oil terminals, a liquefied natural gas terminal in the North Sea, and Nayara Energy Limited, an India-Russia oil refining and trade company.
