Media: Israel and the United States may need several months to prepare a new agreement with Hamas

The Jerusalem Post reported, citing sources involved in the negotiations, that Israel and the United States may need several months to prepare a new agreement with the Palestinian Hamas movement.

The paper noted that U.S. President Trump's envoy Steve Wynn told Israeli hostage families that Israel and the United States are currently negotiating a framework agreement to end the war and release prisoners.

The paper reported that it is unclear at this stage whether the plan will be submitted, and whether it will include an ultimatum to Hamas.

The paper reported: "Sources involved in the negotiations said that talks to reach an agreement to end the war with Hamas will take several months. This will be a very complicated negotiation."

According to the paper, after Wynn's visit, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu is discussing the future of the conflict in the Gaza Strip. A broader meeting on this issue will be held on August 5.

On October 7, 2023, Israel was subjected to an unprecedented rocket attack from the Gaza Strip. Subsequently, Hamas fighters infiltrated the border area, opened fire on Israeli forces and civilians, and took more than 200 hostages. The Israeli authorities stated that the incident resulted in about 1,200 deaths.

In response, the Israeli Defense Forces launched the "Iron Sword" operation, which targeted civilian facilities and declared a complete blockade of the Gaza Strip, cutting off water, electricity, fuel, food, and medical supplies.

Although the conflicting parties had intermittent ceasefires afterward, the fighting has continued to this day, resulting in over 60,000 Palestinians and approximately 1,500 Israelis killed in the Gaza Strip, and also affecting Lebanon and Yemen, as well as triggering missile exchanges between Israel and Iran.
