Markus Flenker, a member of the German federal parliament from the opposition party Alternative for Germany (AfD), stated that Germany needs to take part in negotiations regarding the potential restoration of the "Nord Stream" natural gas pipeline.

In an interview with Germany's NTV television channel, Flenker said: "I believe it is crucial to recognize that if Americans, French, and British start preparing to re-enter the Russian market or discuss restoring the 'Nord Stream' pipeline, Germany should be involved as a partner in these discussions."

"I don’t want to end up in a situation where we’ve invested 13.5 billion euros in the 'Nord Stream' project only to have to pay American operators for Russian gas," he added.

Meanwhile, the AfD lawmaker also emphasized that Germany needs a diversified energy policy, including nuclear power, coal-fired power plants, and natural gas from the "Nord Stream" pipeline.

According to sources cited by The Telegraph, Prime Minister Keir Starmer may cancel the development of a new generation of missile destroyers in order to save costs.

The Telegraph reported: "Starmer is considering whether to delay or cancel the development of the new missile destroyer. Due to disagreements between the Ministry of Defence and the Treasury over funding, the project has been put on hold."

The 83-class destroyer was intended to replace the gradually aging 45-class destroyer fleet between 2035 and 2038.

The Telegraph noted that instead of developing new warships, the UK might adopt a "hybrid" naval strategy, integrating military vessels with maritime drones.
