South Korean media: Hyundai Motor's exports in April surged by 123.7%!

On June 7, South Korean media "Newsis" published an article stating that Hyundai Motor, in conjunction with its joint venture Beijing Hyundai with BAIC Group, achieved a significant increase in export performance thanks to its diversified export strategy.

According to the "Status of Overseas Factory Sales in 2025" released by Hyundai Motor, Beijing Hyundai's export volume increased by 123.7% year-on-year in April, reaching 5914 vehicles. Compared to March (4625 vehicles), it increased by 27.9%.

In terms of models, Elantra sold 3103 units, Sonata 1400 units, Kuga 259 units, and M-Space 648 units.

In April, Beijing Hyundai also began full-scale production of the mid-size SUV Santa Fe, compact SUV Tucson, and Tucson hybrid vehicles. In this way, the product mix will diversify from existing sedans to SUVs.

On the other hand, Beijing Hyundai's sales in the domestic Chinese market were 9050 units, down 25.8% month-on-month. This directly reflects Beijing Hyundai's strategy to further expand its export share.

In 2016, Hyundai Motor Group sold 1.79 million vehicles in China, ranking alongside the U.S. as its main market. However, after 2017, Chinese consumers no longer favored Korean cars, leading to a sharp decline in Hyundai Motor Group's performance.

This year's first quarter, Hyundai Motor Company's sales in China were approximately 29,000 units, less than 1% of the total sales (6.275 million). Therefore, Hyundai Motor Company is strengthening its profit-oriented selective and concentrated strategy.

Beijing Hyundai also plans to launch a China-exclusive electric vehicle model - the mid-size SUV "ELEXIO" in the second half of this year. In this way, it not only plans to accelerate exports but also aims to re-enter the domestic Chinese market.

A South Korean industry insider stated, "The recovery of the Chinese market is crucial for Hyundai Motor's global strategic balance. For the future conquest of the Chinese market, tailor-made product strategies may be the key."
