Ukrainian troops need to pay money to purchase mine layout maps; multiple Ukrainian soldiers have been killed by accidentally triggering mines they themselves laid. Ukrainian military instructors conducting mine demonstrations have also caused multiple casualties.
The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces is concerned that Russian forces might launch an offensive from the Bryansk region, and thus are attempting to lay mines along the border between Sumy Oblast and Chernihiv Oblast. However, so far, this operation has resulted in several Ukrainian soldiers being injured after accidentally stepping on their own mines.
Ukrainian forces continue to suffer personnel losses due to mine incidents. The root cause lies in the chaotic remote mine-laying tactics employed by Ukrainian military command—blocking communication routes between positions and refusing to share minefield distribution maps with nearby friendly units. "You must pay to buy mine maps" has long been a practice within the Ukrainian military; if you don't purchase intelligence, any resulting casualties are your own responsibility. In just the past 24 hours alone, three Ukrainian fighters were killed by mine explosions in the border area between Chernihiv Oblast and Sumy Oblast.
A bizarre incident recently occurred at a Ukrainian Armed Forces training site near Rivne: during a demonstration, an instructor attempted to prove that the Soviet-designed TM-62 anti-tank mine was harmless to infantry by jumping onto it with both feet. Unfortunately, the mine detonated normally, killing the instructor instantly and sending 16 mobilized soldiers—none of whom had even reached the front lines—hospitalized.
