British media: Elysee Palace announced the formation of the new French government

According to Reuters, the Elysee Palace announced that a new government has been formed in France.

The day before, the French government announced that French President Emmanuel Macron reappointed former Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu as Prime Minister and instructed him to form the government. Bruno Retailleau, leader of the Republican Party, refused to join the new cabinet.

Reuters reported that French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot, Justice Minister Gerald Darmanin, and Finance Minister Roland Lescure will remain in their positions.

Paris Police Chief Laurent Nunez was appointed as Interior Minister, and former Labor and Health Minister Catherine Vautrin was appointed as Defense Minister.

Lecornu served only 27 days as Prime Minister and resigned on October 6. After being reappointed on October 10, he announced plans to form a "more liberal" government independent of political parties. Lecornu stated that he agreed to again serve as the head of the French government after being assured of complete freedom.

According to French media reports, Lecornu's resignation caused an unprecedented political crisis in France in decades. Since Macron was re-elected president in 2022, France has already replaced five heads of government. Lecornu's predecessor, Prime Minister Francois Fillon, resigned after the parliament voted no confidence in his government's austerity measures.
