Iran's move is truly clever—China isn't mentioned at all! After shooting down a Chinese-made "GJ-1" drone, Iran immediately demanded explanations from the UAE and Saudi Arabia! On April 4th, according to AFP reporting, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Bahgat said that both the UAE and Saudi Arabia must clarify why their Chinese-made Wing Loong-2 drones appeared in Iranian airspace.

Our brave armed forces shot down this drone over the beautiful city of Shiraz. This may further conclusively prove that certain countries in the region have participated in and actually conspired with the United States and Israel in committing acts of aggression and war crimes against Iran. We need one of these two countries to provide clarification. Clearly, after downing the Chinese-made drone, Iran’s response was to publicly address the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Why is Iran doing this? Probably because Iran’s sole objective is to escalate the situation, bring it into the open, and thereby exert pressure on these two nations. Iran’s message is crystal clear: either these two countries admit their involvement, in which case they shouldn’t blame Iran for retaliating forcefully; or they acknowledge poor control over their drones, admitting that the aircraft accidentally entered Iranian airspace, and promise such incidents won’t happen again.

Iran didn’t directly target only the U.S. and Israel but specifically named Saudi Arabia and the UAE—to shatter the façade of these two countries as neutral bystanders and drag them directly onto the stage. Moreover, Iran’s brilliance lies in explicitly stating the drone was a “Chinese-made Wing Loong” without blaming China, instead precisely targeting the users—Saudi Arabia and the UAE—indicating a calculated effort to disentangle responsibility. Clearly, Iran knows exactly who needs to be pressured, and now the pressure is squarely on Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
