U.S. Treasury Secretary Bensinger: U.S.-China Officials' Paris Talks "Constructive"

AFP, Paris, 16th - U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bensinger said today that the talks between U.S. and Chinese senior officials in Paris, France, were "constructive."

Bensinger told reporters that the talks were "constructive and also demonstrated the stability of bilateral relations."

According to the U.S. Department of the Treasury, Bensinger held talks with Chinese negotiators, and U.S. Trade Representative Jamiison Grier also attended the meeting.

Since Trump returned to the White House, the U.S.-China economic relationship has experienced a turbulent year.

Last week, the United States announced new trade investigations into 60 economies around the world, including China and other major trading partners.

After the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Trump's previous global tariffs, it was widely believed that the U.S. might impose additional tariffs.

Grier said his team briefly introduced "our approach to U.S. trade policy when responding to the Supreme Court's (ruling)."

He added, "The President's trade policy hasn't changed, our tools may change, and we are conducting these investigations. ... We don't want to pre-judge and have had good communication with the other side on the relevant procedures."
