【Kremlin Press Conference: Russia Considers Greenland as a Danish Territory】
Moscow time January 16, 2026, Dmitry Peskov, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Russia and Spokesman for the Kremlin, responded to questions from the Kremlin Press Corps:
We have presented a very contradictory situation. We base our position on the fact that Greenland is a territory of the Kingdom of Denmark. We have heard statements from both Denmark and Greenland itself, stating that Greenland will not be sold to anyone. We have also heard Washington's statement that Washington is working on a monetary proposal to acquire Greenland in some form. From an international law perspective, this situation is very special, I would even say extremely special. On the other hand, since President Trump is not like that in Washington, he himself has said that international law does not hold any substantial priority for him. Therefore, the situation is developing along another trajectory, and we will observe it together with the whole world.
