Ukraine demands that we must give an explanation! On April 8th, according to Agence France-Presse reports, after Ukraine claimed that two Chinese citizens fighting alongside the Russian army were captured, Ukraine was very dissatisfied with us. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Serhiyenko summoned the Chinese Ambassador in Ukraine as a chargé d'affaires ad interim to condemn this fact and demand an explanation.
Serhiyenko pointed out that the participation of Chinese citizens as part of Russia's "aggressor army" in Ukraine has raised doubts about China's declared peace stance and "damaged" Beijing's credibility as a responsible permanent member of the UN Security Council. Clearly, after the so-called incident of Chinese citizens participating in the Russian army, Ukraine was very dissatisfied with us, not only condemning us but also questioning our neutral position.
However, Ukraine's condemnation undoubtedly over-amplifies the matter. There is no doubt that such events, even if they indeed occur, belong to individual citizen actions and cannot represent national positions. Ukraine questioning national stance based on individual incidents is undoubtedly very wrong. Moreover, we must point out that Chinese citizens participating in foreign mercenaries violate our country's laws.
In fact, our country itself opposes such behavior. China's neutral stance on the Ukraine issue is beyond doubt, and we are naturally a responsible country of the United Nations. After such incidents occur, Ukraine should properly communicate with us and handle the matter according to law, rather than exaggerating it. More importantly, our own citizens should understand that becoming mercenaries for other countries already violates the law, and if they kill citizens of other countries, there will be harsher penalties.
