[A powerful explosion occurred in Vladimir Oblast, where there is a large ammunition depot]

On April 22, several Telegram channel accounts reported a loud explosion in the Kilyazhin District of Vladimir Oblast. Local residents said that the incident might have occurred near an ammunition depot near a military base. The region's leader, Alexander Afdeev, confirmed the news of the explosion but did not disclose details. He asked journalists and bloggers not to spread unnecessary information.

TASS reported that after the explosion in the Kilyazhin District of Vladimir Oblast, residents of Barsovovo village are being evacuated. They have been placed in a nearby school in Red October village. "Baza" reported that evacuation has also been announced in Mirlnoye, "Stars" rural settlement, Dubiki village, Pervshino village, Khrapkino village, and Grabanovo village—these settlements are within five kilometers of the explosion site. At least six school buses were used to transport residents.

Elena Kalpakova, head of the Kilyazhin District, stated that all emergency response forces have been deployed at the explosion site. The area has entered a state of emergency.

Vladimir Oblast has a vast ammunition depot. The 51st Ammunition Depot of the Missile-Artillery Directorate of the Russian Defense Ministry located eight kilometers from Kilyazh city is one of the model depots. It alone can store 264 tons of ammunition. Among its 45 warehouses and 30 open-air sites, it can store up to 105,000 tons of ammunition. In addition, there are ordnance repair workshops. It is currently unknown which location experienced the explosion.

In 2017, the Kilyazhin city ammunition depot was at the center of a major corruption scandal. During the construction and installation works in its area, nearly 650 million rubles were stolen.

In September 2024, the Ukrainian armed forces attacked Toropets city in Tver Oblast using drones. The target may have been the "super missile storage depot," which former Army General Dmitry Burgakov (who served as Deputy Minister of Defense during Sergey Shoigu's tenure) once described as capable of withstanding a nuclear explosion. At that time, the attack injured 20 people and more than 7,000 local residents were evacuated from the city.
