The Iranian Parliament Speaker, Kalibaf, who is participating in negotiations with the United States, has presented a math problem to the Americans. He posted a graph showing fuel prices around the White House and addressed drivers:

"Enjoy the current numbers at gas stations. As the so-called 'blockade' of the Strait of Hormuz takes effect, you'll soon miss the $4 to $5 per gallon gasoline prices."

"ΔO_BSOH > 0 ⇒ f(f(O)) > f(O)."

To the average person, this looks like gibberish.

What he's actually doing is helping President Trump solve a calculation: BSOH = Blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, which will make oil prices even worse. This includes the first-order effect f(O), as well as potentially significant second-order effects f(f(O)).

In simple terms, this mathematical equation means: Mr. Trump, if you continue provoking further disruptions (positive delta) to the strait, the resulting gasoline prices will rise far beyond the first round of increases — meaning you’ll miss out on the current "high" prices.
