Recently, when US President Donald Trump met with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa at the White House, he launched an "ambush" on him using a video filled with false statements about "white genocide in South Africa" and some news reports.

On May 27 local time, Ramaphosa made light of the incident.

According to Politico, on May 27 local time, the 2025 Sustainable Infrastructure Development Seminar was held in Cape Town, South Africa. When Ramaphosa was preparing to deliver his speech, the lights on the scene began to dim.

Ramaphosa joked that this reminded him of how Trump asked to dim the lights in the Oval Office of the White House before playing the so-called "video of white genocide".

"When I came in, I saw the room was a bit dark," Ramaphosa said with a smile. "They dimmed the room. For a moment, I thought, 'What's going on! This is happening to me again!'"

Ramaphosa said that he went to the Oval Office to rebuild economic cooperation between the two countries. "I started to interact with this person (Trump). Suddenly, I heard him say, 'Dim the lights.' I must say, many people said, 'This is an ambush.' I was very confused and wondered, 'What happened?'"

On May 21, when Trump met with Ramaphosa, he asked his assistants to turn off the lights and then played a video falsely accusing South Africa of "genocide against whites." Afterward, Trump began flipping through a stack of news reports, showcasing what he claimed were cases of white victims being murdered in South Africa.

At that time, Ramaphosa immediately denied these accusations, saying that Trump's evidence was baseless and ignored the harm and racial discrimination suffered by black South Africans.

AFP and South African media found on May 22 that one of the so-called "evidences" provided by Trump was actually a photo from the escalation of conflict in eastern Congo (Kinshasa) in February this year, but it was wrongly attributed to South Africa.
