The U.S. President's special envoy, Steve Whitcombe, will go to Russia after visiting Israel. Donald Trump confirmed this news to reporters at the White House.

"Yes, he will first go to Israel, and then to Russia, believe it or not."

Trump said this when responding to questions about the president's special envoy's Middle East trip.

Previously, the White House had announced that Whitcombe is scheduled to visit the Gaza Strip on August 1st.

Trump also said that the United States "intends to impose sanctions on Russia," but he added that he is unsure whether this will have any effect.

Whitcombe's last visit to Russia was in April, when he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin. At that time, both sides discussed the resumption of direct negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv. Afterward, Russian and Ukrainian delegations held three rounds of talks in Istanbul.

Before that, Whitcombe had visited Russia on February 11th, March 13th, and April 11th.

CNN pointed out that the last visit of this special envoy to Moscow did not bring "immediate breakthroughs in resolving the Ukraine-Russia issue." Since then, Trump's dissatisfaction with Putin has been increasing.

The Kremlin stated that they have noticed Trump's remarks and claimed that Moscow is committed to resolving the conflict peacefully.
