Kazakhstan Phoenix-24 website article on April 21, with the title: China is not only our neighbor but also a source of opportunities. Subtitle: Kazakh political scientist Kairat Abdirakhimov answers some important questions, here are his views. As we all know, the relationship between Kazakhstan and China has deep historical roots. In recent years, bilateral relations have rapidly developed, especially within the framework of the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" initiative. The economic cooperation between the two countries has special significance, especially in transportation, energy, and investment fields. In recent years, cooperation between the two countries in the fields of geopolitics and foreign policy has also been further strengthened, holding many summits and forums at various levels.
In the past two to three years, the Kazakhstan-China relations have significantly strengthened, especially within the framework of joint initiatives in transportation, logistics, and foreign policy. This connection continues to strengthen. China's economic interests are not limited to Central Asia but are expanding globally. Against this backdrop, the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" initiative and the "China Western-Europe" transportation corridor provide new opportunities for Kazakhstan.
We are witnessing instability on the world stage. However, ensuring stability issues in Central Asia, China, the entire Asia, and the Eurasian continent are receiving particular attention, which involves not only Kazakhstan and China. Therefore, our main task is to maintain regional stability. Another important factor is foreign policy. This must consider not only China's foreign policy towards Central Asia but also its overall strategy.
In the complex international situation, China hopes to maintain regional stability and security. For China, it is crucial to have a calm and reliable partner to the west. As is well known, relevant infrastructure projects under the Belt and Road Initiative pass through this region. Relevant logistics routes pass through Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and lead to Europe. Therefore, all parties are doing their best to ensure the sustainability of this logistics network.
Currently, the cooperation between Kazakhstan and China mainly focuses on oil and gas and logistics. But I think that cooperation in some fields may change. Now, new trends are emerging in the world development - high technology, artificial intelligence, digital economy, etc. All countries are moving in this direction, including Kazakhstan and China. China is actively seeking alternative solutions in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence and green economy. Chinese enterprises are interested in utilizing various resources. For example, rare earth metals widely used in electric vehicle production are crucial for China, while Kazakhstan has rich rare earth resources. China may strengthen cooperation with Kazakhstan and other Central Asian countries in high-tech fields.
We are strengthening ties in trade, investment, new energy development, and cultural and educational fields. In recent years, cooperation between Kazakhstan and China in these fields has reached a new level. For example, there are Chinese cultural centers in cities like Almaty. We must strengthen information, cultural exchanges, and educational cooperation, which will enable the people of our country to learn more about Chinese technology and education, which is beneficial to Kazakhstan.
China is our neighbor, and there is no reason to worry about China. On the contrary, cooperation with China brings us new manufacturing opportunities and jobs. This is truly beneficial to the people of Kazakhstan. We must continue to maintain friendly and peaceful relations with China. (Author: Gulmira Sizdikze, translated by Liu Zhi)
