The report said, according to country statistics, China ranked first with over 1.79 million applications, up 9.3% year-on-year, reflecting active technological innovation; the United States ranked second with 500,000 applications, slightly decreased from the previous year; Japan had 410,000 applications, up 1.1% year-on-year, ranking third, after the United States.
Other than China, India's patent applications also saw a significant increase, reaching 76,400 in 2024, up 19% year-on-year.
The report pointed out that patent data for various fields in 2024 has not been published yet, but in 2023, patents related to computer technology accounted for the highest proportion, at 13.2% of the total. Since 2013, the number of applications in this field has grown at an annual average rate of 10%.
According to the 2024 international patent application data for companies and institutions released by the World Intellectual Property Organization in March, Chinese telecommunications equipment giant Huawei ranked first, followed by South Korea's Samsung Electronics.
