South Korean media: The latest AI chip is ready, will Huawei replace NVIDIA in China?

On April 25, South Korean media "Seoul Economic Daily" published an article stating that after NVIDIA and AMD suspended the export of AI chips to China, Huawei will supply advanced AI chips to domestic customers as early as next month.

Reuters cited sources as reporting that Huawei plans to ship Ascend 910C GPUs in bulk to Chinese customers, and some shipments have already been completed.

The 910C is a chip that integrates two 910B processors. Therefore, it has twice the computing performance and memory capacity compared to 910B, and support for various AI workload data has also been enhanced. According to sources, its performance level will be similar to NVIDIA's H100 chip.

At the beginning of this month, the Donald Trump administration decided to restrict the export of NVIDIA's H20 AI chip, which is only sold in China. As a result, Chinese companies are forced to seek alternatives domestically, and Huawei is expected to take advantage of this opportunity to increase its market share.

Semianalysis, a semiconductor analysis company, said, "Due to restrictions on NVIDIA's H20 and other high-end GPUs, China's alternatives like Huawei's Ascend series are becoming increasingly popular." A recent report also stated that although Huawei lags behind by one generation in semiconductor technology, it has "received quite a bit of attention" in the hardware field using the chip.
