US Professor Fired After Sharing Kirk's Gun Rights Speech

After the assassination of American conservative political activist Charlie Kirk, some people who criticized Kirk were fired for so-called "improper remarks." According to a September 14 report by WZTV television station in Tennessee, USA, a public university professor in the state was fired because he shared Kirk's gun rights speech on social media.

Austin Peay State University (APSU) in Clarksville, Tennessee announced that its drama professor Darren Michael was fired on the 12th, "due to recent social media posts that seriously damaged the university's reputation."

University President Mike Licari said in a statement: "A staff member at Austin Peay State University shared a post on social media that lacks compassion, is disrespectful to others, and is considered to be defending murder. Such behavior does not conform to the university's commitment to mutual respect, and the university considers such behavior unacceptable, and has therefore fired the staff member."

The statement did not mention the content of the post published by Michael. However, screenshots from some American netizens showed that the Facebook account with the username "Darren V. Michael" and the description "APSU professor" forwarded an article from Newsweek in 2023, titled "Charlie Kirk says that unfortunate shootings are worth it to uphold the Second Amendment of the Constitution."
