On April 19th in U.S. time, large-scale anti-Trump protests occurred across many places in the country. The event was initiated by a grassroots organization named "50501 Movement", calling for over 700 "Action Day" activities to be held nationwide on the same day, with themes covering environmental protection, immigration, democracy and freedom, as well as the 250th anniversary of the American Revolutionary War. It is estimated that about 5 million people participated globally. The number "50501" means "50 states, 50 protests, 1 day". This movement originated from a meme on the social networking site Reddit. The organization stated in its official website statement: “We, the American people, unite for a common goal: to end the abuse of executive power and reject the Trump administration. We are not paid to be here, nor coerced; we just follow our conscience to defend dignity, democracy and freedom.” In Southern California, volunteers provided mutual assistance services to residents affected by wildfires; in New York City, there was a march against the Immigration Service's forced deportation. At the White House, people called for Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a resident of Maryland, who was sent back to El Salvador despite being illegally deported and ordered by the Supreme Court to return home. In cities across America, more than 750 related activities took place, including the "Nature Walk" cleaning action in Michigan, the "Goodwill Protest Parade" in Lafayette, Louisiana, and protests against the deportation of two Venezuelan immigrants to El Salvador in Tampa, Florida. Crowds gathered at the New York Public Library wrote "We the People" (we the people) in chalk on the streets; during the "Kingless Day" event in Concord, Massachusetts, a protester held up a sign saying "End Fascism Now." This place was also where the American Revolutionary War broke out 250 years ago. In New York City, protesters held up protest signs saying "It's Our Turn to Resist." In Washington D.C., New York, Chicago and other major cities, thousands of protesters took to the streets, holding up signs such as "Now It's Our Turn to Resist," showing strong dissatisfaction with Trump's administration's policies for its second term. In Dublin, Ireland, there were also citizens responding. On the San Francisco beach, people formed an "Impeach and Remove" pattern; at a rally in downtown Miami, someone held up a sign saying "We Are All Abrego Garcia" to express support for deported immigrants. An 80-year-old retired mason from Massachusetts said: "This is a critical moment for the freedom, and we must stand up." Although participants have different political views, including Democrats, Republicans, and independent voters, their common goal is to "protect democracy and prevent authoritarianism." A spokesperson for 50501 said that this organization is a non-violent, pro-democracy, anti-administrative overreach non-partisan grassroots group. Experts pointed out that protest is just one of the many ways for democratic systems to resist authoritarianism. Steven Levitsky, a Harvard University political scientist, emphasized: "Street actions help change media narratives and are crucial for raising public awareness." That day, another march was held in Washington D.C., initiated by the "Indivisible Organization," with protesters gathering in front of the Washington Naval Observatory, calling for the restoration of democratic mechanisms and opposing the president's arbitrary governance. Analysts pointed out that the organizers called for 11 million people to participate this time, equivalent to 3.5% of the total population of the United States. If achieved, it would surpass the "Hands Off Our Hands" global protest on April 5th. This activity opposes the Trump administration's "Efficiency Department" (led by tech tycoon Musk) administrative body reduction actions. The actions of 50501 are seen as a long-term war, not only street parades, but also in the long run, promoting ballot reforms and resisting the abuse of power. As a protester from Florida said: "I worry about my grandchildren, I am standing up for them."
