Philippine prisons are preparing to receive in large numbers officials and legislators involved in the flood control project case!
Interior Minister Remulla said on Monday that the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology is fully prepared to detain individuals who may be charged in connection with the flood control project case.
According to recent developments from the Senate hearing, the first round of charges may take place within the next three weeks. However, Remulla emphasized that he knows nothing about the investigation by the Ombudsman, and the court will ultimately decide where the accused will be detained.
"The court has the authority to decide where the defendant will be imprisoned. We cannot act preemptively, but if the indictment is issued, we are ready."
The BJMP prison is considered the most likely facility to receive those involved in the case. This facility can accommodate 800 prisoners, has numerous rooms that can hold 10 people each, and is equipped with bathrooms, clean drinking water, designated areas for exercise and sunlight exposure, as well as 10 private meeting rooms for detainees and their lawyers.
"The rules of the prison will apply equally to the rich and the poor, without any special treatment for high-profile detainees. No mobile phones, no computers, no laptops, no tablets, except for landline phones provided upon the request of the warden, there will be no communication tools."
Remulla confirmed that approximately 200 people will be charged in the first round of cases: "Based on what we saw at the Senate hearing, the names that appeared there are likely to be among those who will be charged."
