CCTV reporters learned that on February 28 local time, according to two U.S. sources and a U.S. official familiar with the matter, Israel and the United States chose to launch an attack on Iran on Saturday, when Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei was holding a meeting with his senior aides.
Israel stated that Khamenei and his senior aides, including Ali Shamkhani, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, and Mohammad Pakpour, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, were killed in the air strike. Two Iranian sources said that Khamenei met with Shamkhani and Ali Larijani, secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, at a secure location just before the air strike began on Saturday.
